Several vaulted cellar office and storage rooms were experiencing below sidewalk rainwater intrusion from many years at 1185 Avenue of the Americas. As the existing waterproofing membrane of the structural vaulted sidewalk slab had been compromised, rainwater was entering through the deteriorated slab, finding its way through the compromised concrete cracks and then down through the ceiling plenums below. CGI utilized its gravity feed waterproofing system through these vaulted sidewalk expansion joints along all 3 sides of this building on 6th Avenue, 46th Street and 47th Street.

The old caulking and residue material from the sidewalk expansion joints at the leaking locations were vacuumed clean, to allow for the two-liquid resin to fully penetrate. Next, our team applied the De Neef resin at the determined gel setting time within these expansion joints to penetrate the critical areas where deterioration occurred. This application in effect created a gel seal below the walking slab to prevent water from intruding into the cellar space below with the joints being filled with backer rod and then caulked with new urethane sealant.

This program proved to be a huge success and the below sidewalk rainwater intrusion was remediated.
